Mr. Cowans’ practice is devoted to counseling and representing public and private sector employers in all areas of labor law. His primary area of practice is workers’ compensation defense and general personnel law counseling. He has represented employers at numerous workers’ compensation hearings and in court actions across the state. He has also handled collective bargaining negotiations and arbitrations in both the public and private sector and regularly counsels employers on employment discrimination matters, personnel concerns, and general labor issues.
Mr. Cowans is a 1985 graduate of Ohio Dominican College where he received a bachelor’s degree summa cum laude, graduating first in his class. He received a juris doctorate with honors in 1988 from The Ohio State University where he was a member of The Ohio State Law Journal. He is a regular speaker at CLE seminars and before numerous groups on a variety of topics including workers’ compensation, employment discrimination, and personnel practices. He co-authored an article entitled “Prevent Personnel Problems” for the magazine Unique Opportunities. He is a member of the Ohio and Columbus Bar Associations serving on the Labor Law and Workers’ Compensation Law Committees. He was elected partner January 1, 1997.
